Global Winter Wonderland- San Diego

JFrom Dec. 20-30, we hosted 10 nights of children’s crafts at the Global Winter Wonderland San Diego. 500 Santa hats were made. We enjoyed tons of fun bringing the pediatric cancer families to the lights!

2017 Joey's Gold Run

3rd annual Joey's Run raised more than $30,000! Around 400 people showed up running to raise money for pediatric cancer research and Lily's family. A big thank-you to O2B Kids who co-hosted the event with us. The money we've raised will help us make advances in childhood cancer research and give hope to children and families who are still fighting the fight.

Cranes display at the Alachua County main library

Our 2,000 origami cranes are displayed at the downtown main library from May to August, 2017. Thank you, Alachua County Library, for spreading the words for childhood cancer awareness!

Childhood Cancer Action Day in DC

Joey's Wings at the Capitol Hill for 2017 Childhood Cancer Action Day! Representing California, we had 7 legislative meetings with 5 California representatives and 2 senators. We ask our legislators for funding for pediatric cancer research, to enhances quality of life for survivors and the #Race4Children which opens up vast new opportunities for pediatric cancer drug development.

2017 Dallas Dash Run

Dallas running group Dash hosted a run on March 25th, 2017 to benefit Joey's Wings. All proceeds go to research on Joey's cancer at UT Southwestern Medical Center Kidney Cancer Program.

Christmas toy drive 2016

We collected about 60 pieces of toys for children on the oncology floor at the Shands. A special thank you to Suburban Animal Hospital for doing the toys drive in honor of Joey again this year! Each toy is wrapped up with cranes and delivered to the Shands Children’s Hospital.

Origami & Music night

Come and see us on Nov. 4th at the Swamp Head Brewery! Besides craft beer, origami and music, Mayflower Cellars will be serving up delicious sausages. For each sausage sold, they will donate $1 to Joey’s Wings Foundation. Special thank you to our young Joey’s Wings String Quartet!

Online auction fundraiser

We fundraised $1,000 for our next family in need! Thank you, all the friends and business for donating the items for the auction!


Massage therapy program

Joey’s Wings donates $7,500 to the UF Health Integrative Medicine Program. We pledge a three-year massage therapy program for the parents at the infusion room on the oncology floor while their children are getting chemotherapy. This fund will provide 600 parents and families with 15-minute chair massage over the course of the years. We hope the massage can help relieve some of the burden and anxiety for parents and families.

2016 childhood cancer awareness display

Our 2,000 origami cranes are up at Shands Children’s Hospital for 2016 childhood cancer campaign! A big thank you to the Office of Clinical Quality and Patient Safety at the UF Health for donating 1,000 origami cranes to our Cranes for A Cure project!


Financial assistance program

Joey’s Wings donates $1,000 to the first family we found through the newly launched financial assistance program. Four-year-old Jack was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma in 2015. They removed his right kidney and a 12 cm tumor, and a node on his lung. In October a CT scan showed two more nodes on his lungs. In November 2015, he started systemic treatment of 3 oral chemotherapy medication, which will last for a year. We’re glad to be part of Jack’s journey.

Pediatric kidney cancer research

Joey’s Wings donates $3,000 to Children’s Cancer Therapy Development Institute for the study of anaplasia in Wilms Tumor, a childhood kidney cancer which affects approximately 500 children per year in the U.S. Researchers will use the funds to collect, develop, and validate several anaplastic WT primary tumor cell cultures and cell lines, genetically sequence them and look for unique biomarkers and mutations.

Shared Hope

“Shared Hope – Art and Healing” opens on Jun. 29th – Aug. 5th at the Harn Museum of Art. This education display includes photographs by Joyce Pearson and Stacey Steinberg, as well as a communal origami project by Joey’s Wings that exemplifies the power of art to raise the spirit as a resource to illness, aging and death.


Art show to benefit Joey’s Wings

10-year-old twins Max and Louis have their first solo art show in May at Okemos, Michigan. Max and Louis donate all the proceeds, $2,192, to Joey’s Wings Foundation. Max and Louis never met Joey, but were touched by Joey’s love of art. Thank you, Boyang Twin Brothers Art! Joey’s Wings Foundation wants to express a big heartfelt thank you for supporting childhood cancer research and awareness!

2nd Annual Joey’s Run

The 2nd Annual Joey’s 5k Run raised $20,000 for childhood cancer research! Behalf of all directors, Joey’s Wings wants to express a big heartfelt thank you to everyone for participating and supporting. The money we’ve raised will help us make advances in childhood cancer research and give hope to children and families who are still fighting the fight.

Medals for kids

We packed 30 goodie bags with a hand-made card, a medal from a runner and a Lego box, delivered to the oncology floor of Shands Children’s Hospital. The words we put on the card: “The medal you are holding was won by a runner. Maybe they trained, maybe they signed up on the day of the race. One thing is certain, they finished the race. During the race they encountered obstacles, much like you have. They became tired, sore and thought about quitting. But, they kept going. They did not give up. And this runner wants to encourage you in your fight to not give up! Keep fighting, keep hoping and keep believing in miracles. You are loved!”

Joey’s Wings Math Competition

Around 300 students from 3-12 grades in Alachua school district get together at Buchholz High School on Jan. 16 to compete for 90 trophies and 40 medals at the Joey’s Wings Math Competition. A big thank to Buchholz Math Team led by Mr. Frazer, for being a childhood cancer advocate! The competition raised $5,500 for childhood cancer research!



Tree of life

We donated $1,500 value of toys and books to children battling cancer at Shands. We will donate another $1,000 of Lego boxes to Shands Children’s and the families at Ronald McDonald House Gainesville. We set up a Christmas tree in Millhopper Library, decorated with origami Christmas ornament.


Joey’s Wings Benefit Gala

Joey’s Wings hosted its very first benefit gala on September 19, 2015. It’s a violin and dance night, inspired by Joey’s love of violin. All proceeds go to tissue banking and patient registry of TFE renal cancer affecting children and young adults. Moving to the…. BEAT!…..Childhood Cancer!

2015 childhood cancer awareness

2,072 origami cranes displayed in Shands Children’s Hospital from September to December raised $2,085 for childhood cancer research. Joey’s Wings is looking for other public places or business to display them after Shands’ Children’s. Childhood cancer awareness is for every month!


Cranes for Cure

We are very excited to launch Cranes for Cure in April, 2015! Cranes for Cure is inspired by Joey’s love of origami. Cranes for Cure’s mission is to deliver origami cranes to pediatric cancer patients in Shands Children’s Hospital and to fund pediatric cancer research by selling origami crane strings and mobiles. We delivered the first group of origami cranes to the children on the oncology floor at Shands Children’s Hospital today. Our very talented volunteer, put the cranes into the sticks, easy for children to carry or they can put them into a container or hang them. We hope these origami cranes can uplift their spirit and bring hope. Flying beyond cancer!

Joey’s Run

We raised $22,480 in Joey’s Wings’ very first fundraising event, a 5k run/walk. Thank you, our very first group of sponsors! Because of your generous donation, we can print more than 600 shirts.
